Many SME’s are unaware of the range of government support and grants available to help grow their business. One of those for SME’s looking to internationalise is the Export Market Development Grant (EMDG).
Australia’s largest services exports are education and tourism, however there are increasing opportunities for other services based companies. If you are exporting, that is generating revenue from overseas and undertaking marketing to do so, you may be eligible for the EMDG.
The program is administered by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade). Eligible expenses include:
- marketing consultant expenses
- trade missions
- promotional material
- free samples
- overseas representation
Once you have spent at least $15,000 on eligible expenses (first claim can be across 2 years) you can claim 50% above $5,000.
For those looking to attend a trade mission, this includes the consultant/mission fee, airfares, marketing documents including website for promotion and an allowance of $350 per day to cover accommodation and other expenses.
Note however it excludes some financial services, migration and real estate.
If you think you may be eligible, speak to your accountant of go to the Austrade website here.
